Are you a single parent who is struggling to make ends meet? One way that you can make things a little easier on yourself is to find free stuff for single parents.
Freecycle, a yahoogroup that you can join, allows people to email the group members with items that they want to get rid of for no cost. You generally just have to be the first person to email them back in order to get the free item. Many types of items are available, and if you are patient, you will often eventually find just what you are looking for.
Craigslist.com or other online want ad sites have free items sections. Listings on Craigslist are by locale. Try the free stuff section or the barter section since you could trade an item you don’t want for something useful.
You may be able to find coupons that offer products for free. Look in your area newspaper or online for coupons. You might also ask friends and neighbors to give you their coupon inserts so that you can collect several of each coupon that you are looking for.
You can also get free stuff from other people’s trash. Dumpster diving may not appeal to you, although it can be a good source of usable items. A drive down neighborhood streets the day before garbage pickup can yield many useful things that are just sitting at the curb with no digging through nasty garbage required.
If your doctor prescribes a prescription medication for you, ask for samples. Be sure to check online at the drug manufacturers website before filling the prescription as sometimes coupons or even a free month’s supply are offered so that you’ll try their medication.
Let your coworkers and friends know that you are looking for specific items or clothing sizes. You will be surprised at what you might get since people often prefer to give their stuff to people that they know even if it is indirectly. Return the favor by passing along your used items that are in good condition to others that can truly use them.
Want to eat out? Check to see if your favorite restaurants have a kids eat free night. Some popular family chains have one night a week where you can get one or two kid’s meals free with a paying adult.
Online freebie sites are another way to get free stuff. You might find product samples, free t-shirts, free software, etc. You may even find a new product that the whole family enjoys.
