In general, Can I carry the baby as high and as tight as possible? Because, if baby is not positioned at or above my navel, I'll probably never be comfortable.

Having a positive attitude when connecting with your teenager, is so important. I believe being negative, ans lecturing will only make them rebell and pull away. I agree with remembering when you were a teenager and the feelings you had went though can be helpful in knowing how to treat your teenager with respect and then practicing postive parenting. Listening is important also because I believe then your teenager will think and feel that what they have to say counts and matters. This is good for their self-esteem also. This article gives you lots of food for thought about how we are raising are teenagers. In my opinion this is an excellent article.

While medication and specialized parenting techniques may be appropriate for some children with ADHD, there are many parents out there looking for a more natural, non-medicated approach to helping and educating their ADHD child. Please take a look at http://brainbalancecenters.com - this website does a great job of explaining the functional disconnection in the brain that leads to ADHD and other neuro-behavioral disorders like mild to moderate autism, OCD, etc. Good info and for those who don't live near a center, there is a book that details their method that is available for purchase. They combine diet, behavioral, educational, and therapeutic interventions for a whole-person approach to ADHD.

I think the socks that look like shoes are a good idea for a growing baby. The price of shoes for your baby I thought were quite expensive considering they will grow out of them so quickly.

Hi Nance,

Thank you for writing about helping special needs kids. The new type of ride on toy that is on the market is the smart balance bike. They have no pedals or training wheels and were designed to develop a child's balance and coordination by simply allowing the child to sit and walk or run with the bike by pushing with their feet. If the bike starts to fall, kids instinctively regain their balance using their feet. Once they've gained some momentum and balance control they can lift their feet up as they feel comfortable and start cruising.
